What does ‘CHILL’ stand for?
CHILL stands for: CHESS Initiative in Lifelong Learning.
What does ‘CHESS’ mean?
CHESS is the acronym for UNC Charlotte’s College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences.
The Location
Where does CHILL at IPH take place?
Each CHILL course is hosted at The Independent Picture House (4237 Raleigh St, Charlotte, NC 28213) in one of the cinema’s auditoriums/spaces. Participants will be greeted in IPH’s primary lobby and directed by a cinema team member to the correct space.
The Logistics
What time do CHILL courses meet?
All CHILL at IPH workshops start at 10am and run until 12pm. There is built in time in each session for time for participants to ‘chill’ with their instructor and peers!
Is there parking available?
Yes! The Independent Picture House has a parking lot immediately in front and to the side of the cinema. Parking is free, and if the lot is filled due to an event at one of the neighboring businesses, street parking is also free and available.
Public transportation is also easily accessible in the area, with the Sugar Creek light rail stop less than a quarter mile from the cinema as well as CATS bus stops.
What do I need to bring?
Mainly just yourself! Individuals are welcome to bring a notebook/paper, writing utensil, and/or computer for notes. Any additional materials will be provided to you by the instructor.
Does this count as college credit?
No. CHILL courses currently do not provide university credit for participants to apply to a current or future degree. But a certificate recognizing completion will be provided.
Registration
How do I register and what is the cost?
Registration is $150 per session. You can sign up through the registration links next to each session name. The fee covers all 4 class meetings and shared program materials.
